It’s official: We’re having a thirsty gurl summer. Here’s what to sip when you’re having an arvo sesh.

THE SITUATION:

HAVING AN ARVO SESH

SIPS TO:

SIP IN THE SUN

Ever wonder what you should be drinking when you’re in a park, the sun is out and it’s a pleasant 25 degrees with no wind? Well, if you live on the east coast, you probably haven’t had the chance to think about it for the last few years. Call us ignorant and/or hopeful - but we predict this year we’ll have the thirsty gurl summer we’ve all been yearning for.

With such a seemingly simple activity like going to the park and having a few cold ones, comes a lot of pressure to make it the best damn arvo yet. So we’ve spoken to the experts (aka the ones that make the bloody delicious sips we all love) to find out what they turn to when they’re having an arvo sesh in the park.

CHRISSY, QUEEN OF CHAOS (FORMERLY SAUSAGE QUEEN BREWING)

CHRISSY:  I would say the Reckless XPA, just nice, light and fresh. If you have friends who are beer drinkers they will be impressed but for people who are new to beer, it’s not too intimidating - it’s a good all-comers, ‘what’s in the esky’ beer.

ROSE, SPARKKE & FULL CIRCLE

ROSE: Definitely a Sparkke Pale Ale! It’s such a beautiful, refreshing drink and actually I've sat on kegs of it in the park. It’s tropical and fresh and just the most fun beer; easy and sessionable. All the good things!

HARRIET, MOUNTAIN CULTURE

HARRIET: We do really amazing sours, so I think blueberry sour. I love those when it’s hot, it's really refreshing, it's a little bit tart, and it's really good for an arvo sesh. That would be my go to.

JANE, TWO METRE TALL

JANE: I’m going to drink a Derwent Aromatic Spelt Ale. It’s got beautiful aromatic hops, floral character, a really lovely acidity. It’s lighter in colour but still really full-flavoured.

ERIN, LITTLE FRANCES
ERIN: I’d probably have options in that situation. There’d be some tinnies, and there’d be a white wine or a cold skinsy wine.

YOKO, BRAVE NEW WINE

YOKO: Pet Nat! Or beers.

SUZI, SMALLFRY

SUZI: Chilled rosé. Unfined, unfiltered so it’s a little bit cloudy. If it’s a really warm day, I’ll even put ice blocks in my drink too.

TESSA, VS&B

TESSA: A mix of things for sure. A wide range of things - dry riesling, a light bodied red, mixers, all sorts.

GALIT, THE OTHER RIGHT

GALIT: The lightest red I can find.

JESS, ARC WINES

JESS: My Summer White!

PETA, SABI WABI

PETA: I really enjoyed the alcoholic kombucha that you guys have! The Pine Lime Coconut one.
